The Little Rose Quartz

The word “quartz” is derived from the German word “Quarz” and its  ancestor “twarc”, which probably originated in slavic, Czech tvrdý (“hard”), Polish twardy (“hard”), Serbian and Croatian tvrd (“hard”).

Rose Quartz colors range from very pale pink through to deep pink, and all have that wonderful loving vibration. Deposits have been found in Brasil but also in Madagascar, India and Japan. It could be found as well as in South Africa and South Dakota in the USA.

The color of this crystal is usually considered as due to trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese, in the massive material. Additionally, there is a rare type of pink quartz (also frequently called crystalline rose quartz) with color that is thought to be caused by trace amounts of phosphate or aluminium. The color in this crystal is apparently photosensitive and subject to fading. Rose quartz stones were at one time known as Bohemian or Silesian rubies. (Silesia – a region of Central Europe mostly in Poland with small parts in the Czech Republic and Germany). During this time people discovered that the pink quartz would fade when left in direct light. They believed the rose quartz color would only be restored when the pink quartz stone was put in a damp place.
